The short version

There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users.
You only message people you have added and accepted — there is no public feed and no messages from strangers.
You can report content or users, and block anyone instantly.
We review reports within 24 hours; reporting and blocking remove content and users from your app instantly.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the OffNet Chat app. By using OffNet Chat, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users

OffNet Chat has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. You agree not to use the app to create, send, or solicit any content that is, or to engage in any conduct that is:

harassing, bullying, threatening, or intended to intimidate another person;
hateful or discriminatory toward people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity;
sexually explicit, pornographic, or in any way sexualizing minors (child sexual abuse material is strictly prohibited and will be reported to the authorities);
violent, or that incites or threatens violence or harm;
defamatory, fraudulent, deceptive, or unlawful;
spam, or sent in bulk to people who have not agreed to receive it.

Reporting and enforcement

You can report objectionable content or an abusive user directly inside the app — press and hold any message and choose Report, or open a friend's page and choose Report. A report sends the content you choose to report, along with the involved identifiers, to us.

We review every report within 24 hours, using the content the reporter chooses to share with us, and act to the fullest extent technically possible. Reporting removes the reported message from your app, and blocking instantly removes a user and all their messages from your app. Because OffNet Chat is end-to-end encrypted and serverless, we cannot read messages or delete them from other people's devices; enforcement relies on your reports and the blocking tools, not on central moderation.

Blocking

You can block any user at any time from their friend page. Blocking immediately removes that person and their messages from your app and prevents them from contacting you again unless you choose to add them back.

Content filtering

OffNet Chat includes an on-device filter that hides messages which may contain objectionable language; you can reveal any hidden message, or turn the filter off, in Settings. Filtering happens entirely on your device — no message is ever sent to a server to be scanned.

Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for the content you send and for your conduct. Messages are encrypted end-to-end and never reach our servers, so you — not OffNet Chat — control what you send. Misuse of the app, or violation of these Terms, may result in removal from the service to the fullest extent technically possible.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the service, and remove content within our reach, if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the app at any time, and Settings → Delete Identity & All Data removes everything associated with you.

Disclaimer

OffNet Chat is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. Message delivery over a mesh network is best-effort and may be delayed or fail depending on nearby devices and connectivity. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app.

Changes

If these Terms change, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date, and you may be asked to accept them again in the app.
